Salem has been working for BP since 2000 in various roles, covering Government Relations, Communications and External Affairs and Commercial, heavily involved in negotiations across the Middle East such as Oman and Iraq. Prior to his current role, he was the Vice President of Government Relations for BP Middle East Region.
Salem started his career journey in Dubai Aluminum company (DUBAL) from 1996-1997. He left DUBAL to join his family business and set up a successful cargo company in Dubai. In 2000, Salem joined BP as a Marketing Advisor for BP Middle East. He established sustainable projects including the BP Young Adventurers Programme, BP’s flagship social investment program,designed to equip youth with leadership and problem solving skills.Between 2003 and 2005, he was promoted to a managerial role in charge of the Corporate Social Responsibilityprogramme. In 2005, he became the Communications and External Manager for BP Dubai, Sharjah and Oman.
Between 2007 and 2009, he was involved in setting up the business and in the negotiation process to secure access for BP in Oman. In 2009 he was appointed as Advisor to BP Middle East Regional President, where he was involved in setting up BP business in Basra. Between 2010 and 2014, he was the Communications and External Affairs Vice President for BP Iraq, involved in negotiations with Government of Iraq.
